Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL) has reaffirmed its commitment to nation-building through sport, proudly serving as the naming rights sponsor of the 2025 Papua New Guinea (PNG) Golf Open, held from 14 to 17 August at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club.

This year’s tournament attracted more than 100 professional golfers from the United States, Spain, Fiji, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Australia. The event not only showcased exceptional sporting skill but also strengthened PNG’s profile as a destination for international sports.

The tournament was more than just four days of sport. It brought together communities, businesses, and fans in celebration of shared passion, discipline, and talent. For many Papua New Guineans, the opportunity to witness professional golf at this level is both inspiring and transformative—especially for young and aspiring athletes who see firsthand the pathways that sport can open.

In the lead-up to the main event, KMHL participated in the Senior Pro-Am on Wednesday 13 August, fielding two teams that joined seasoned professionals in a day of friendly competition and camaraderie. One KMHL team secured third place—a proud moment for the company that highlighted the enthusiasm and sportsmanship of its participants.

Managing Director Sarimu Kanu said the company’s support reflects more than financial backing—it is an investment in PNG’s people and its future.

“The PNG Golf Open is more than a sporting event—it is a celebration of excellence, discipline, and friendship. By backing this tournament, KMHL is investing in the growth of local sporting talent, building stronger communities, and promoting PNG on an international stage,” he said.

For KMHL, sponsorship of the PNG Golf Open is part of a broader commitment to initiatives that inspire, unite, and create opportunities for Papua New Guineans. The company sees strong similarities between the values of golf—focus, integrity, and perseverance—and the principles that guide its business as PNG’s state-owned minerals company.

Mr Kanu added that sports like golf play a vital role in national development, fostering inclusivity, pride, and resilience. “Sport has the power to bring people together across backgrounds and borders. It tells the story of who we are as a nation, and it opens doors for international engagement and partnerships,” he added.

With another successful tournament completed, KMHL has signalled its ongoing support for sporting events that showcase the best of PNG to the world. The 2025 PNG Golf Open was not only a triumph for golf but also a demonstration of what partnerships between business, sport, and community can achieve for the nation.
