In a quiet but meaningful gesture to mark International Women’s Day, female staff of Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL) stepped away from their desks on Friday, 6 March to spend time with women receiving care at the Port Moresby General Hospital offering encouragement, care packages and moments of human connection.

Guided by this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” the visit reflected a belief: that sometimes the most powerful way to show support is simply by being present.

The visit brought together women from different walks of life; patients, nurses, caregivers and KMHL staff united by shared stories of strength, resilience and compassion. Through conversations, smiles and quiet moments of reflection, the day created a space where women uplifted and encouraged one another.

General Manager Corporate Services Cathy Magalu said the visit was less about giving and more about recognising the strength of women in all circumstances.

“International Women’s Day is often celebrated in big ways, but we believe its true meaning can also be found in simple acts of kindness,” said Magalu.

“Spending time with these remarkable women reminded us that compassion, care and unity are powerful ways we can support one another,” she added.

The visit reflects KMHL’s broader commitment to community engagement and to recognising the important role women play in families, workplaces and communities across Papua New Guinea.
